NATO PA President Dr Karl A Lamers will join Alliance leaders in Chicago for the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government on Sunday 20 May. The Chicago Summit will address the key challenges facing the Alliance, including operations in Afghanistan, capabilities and resources, and the Alliance’s partnerships with nations and other international organizations such as the European Union.

Following consultation with the heads of the Assembly’s member delegations, Dr Lamers will highlight those issues of key concern to parliamentarians.

“I am honoured to represent the Assembly at this crucial NATO event, and to have the opportunity to present parliamentary perspectives to the Alliance leaders gathered in Chicago”, said Dr Lamers.

“Our members have strong views on the security issues facing NATO, but they also underline NATO’s strength and unity as an Alliance based on common principles, values and beliefs.  I intend to address not only our views on immediate and future security challenges, but on the Alliance’s importance as a community of values.”

Dr Lamers’ speech will be available on the Assembly’s website after it has been delivered at the Summit on Sunday 20 May.
