Senior Fellow, Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, DCAF

Hans Born coordinates DCAF’s research working groups on Parliamentary Accountability of the Security Sector and Legal Aspects of Security Sector Governance. His current projects focus on democracy and the use of force; civil-military relations; accountability and transparency of the security sector; human rights of armed forces personnel; as well as civilian control of nuclear weapons.

Hans Born is Executive Board Member of the European Research Group of Military and Society and in this capacity he coordinates research in civil-military relations in Europe. Additionally, he is guest lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology in Zurich and at the United Nations Fellowship Programme in Geneva.

He has worked as a consultant at ORDP VNG Management Consultancy in The Hague (now part of Ernst & Young Netherlands), as assistant professor at the Dutch National Defence University in Breda and as a visiting professor at the Austrian National Defence University in Vienna.

Hans Born received a MA degree in Public Administration from Twente University in Enschede, The Netherlands and a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Brabant in Tilburg.
