NATO PA’s Spring Session to be held in Oslo, Norway, 22-26 May 2009

The Norwegian Parliament will host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's Spring Session from 22 to 26 May, bringing together in Oslo some 300 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member countries from North America and Europe as well as delegates from partner countries and observers.

GENERAL

The Plenary session on Tuesday 26 May will be addressed by NATO PA's President, Congressman John TANNER (United States), Jens STOLTENBERG, Prime Minister of Norway, Thorbjørn JAGLAND, President of the Storting, Kai EIDE, UN Special Representative for Afghanistan and the Speakers of the Parliaments of NATO’s two new members, Albania and Croatia.

The key note addresses will be followed by a Joint Meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the North Atlantic Council, chaired by NATO Secretary General, Jaap DE HOOP SCHEFFER and followed by a question and answer period on topical issues.

Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May will be devoted to the meetings of NATO PA’s five Committees (Political, Defence and Security, Science and Technology, Civil Dimension of Security, Economics and Security. These will discuss reports on a broad range of Security and defence topics and will be addressed by high level guest speakers from government, academia and NATO.

The committee meetings and the Plenary Session will be held on the third floor of the Kongressenter from 23 to 26 May 2009. Access to the Kongressenter is via the main entrance on Youngsgt 11. All participants will be submitted to security controls.

PRESS BRIEFING

NATO Parliamentary Assembly President, John TANNER (United States), Per Ove WIDTH, Head of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO PA and David HOBBS , NATO PA Secretary General will welcome the press and give a press briefing on Saturday 23 May at 14:45 in the Kongressenter, level 1.
