General The UK Parliament will host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's 55th Annual Session from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 November 2009, bringing together in Edinburgh , United Kingdom , some 340 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member countries from North America and Europe as well as delegates from partner countries and observers to discuss security issues of common concern to all countries. The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, US Congressman John Tanner, and the leader of the United Kingdom ’s delegation to the NATO PA, the Rt Hon. Bruce George MP, will welcome media representatives and answer questions during a press briefing on Friday 13 November at 10:00. Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November will be devoted to the meetings of NATO PA’s five Committees: Political, Defence and Security, Science and Technology, Civil Dimension of Security and Economics and Security. Each Committee will discuss reports on a broad range of security and defence topics and will be addressed by high level guest speakers from government, academia, NGO’s and NATO. The Plenary session on Tuesday 17 November will be addressed by NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s President, Congressman John Tanner, NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Rt Hon. David Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, former NATO Secretary General, Rt Hon. Lord Robertson of Port Ellen and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis. The key note addresses will be followed by a Panel on the UK ’s perspective on Women in the Armed Forces. The panel will be comprised of 4 women representatives from the British armed forces who will talk about their experiences, including recent active service. The remainder of the afternoon will be dedicated to debates and votes on the Committee resolutions. All these meetings are open to the press. Session venue Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) The committee meetings and the Plenary Session are open to the press and will be held from Saturday 14 to Tuesday 17 November 2009 in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Access to the EICC is for registered press only. Access to the EICC will not be permitted without a session registration badge. Press briefing NATO Parliamentary Assembly President, John Tanner, the Rt Hon. Bruce George MP, leader of the United Kingdom’s delegation to the NATO PA and David Hobbs, NATO PA Secretary General will welcome the press and give a press briefing on Friday 13 November at 10:00 in the Pentland Suite at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Media accreditation Media representatives wishing to cover the session or to attend the press briefing must request accreditation by completing the attached accreditation form and sending it, along with a photograph, to edneym@parliament.ukby Thursday 5 November: Michelle EDNEY Photographs should be sent in digital jpeg format, taken at the camera’s lowest resolution. Alternatively, standard colour passport photos may be sent by post (although please note that post in the UK is disrupted at present). Session registration badges will be prepared for those who have registered in advance. Badges should be collected from the NATO PA Observers and Press Registration Desk in the Sheraton Hotel (Dalwhinnie Room). The Sheraton hotel is adjacent to the EICC. Please bring two forms of identification in order to collect your badge, at least one of these must be photographic. Access to the EICC will only be possible for those with session badges.
