NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s Spring Session
The Parliament of the Republic of Latvia (the Saeima) will host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's Spring Session from Friday 28 May to June 1 2010. The Session will bring together in Riga some 300 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member countries from North America and Europe as well as delegates from partner countries and observers to discuss common international security concerns. The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May will be devoted to the meetings of NATO PA’s five Committees: Political, Defence and Security, Science and Technology, Civil Dimension of Security and Economics and Security. Each Committee will discuss Reports on a broad range of security and defence topics and will be addressed by high level guest speakers from government, academia, NGO’s and NATO. The Plenary session on Tuesday 1 June will be addressed by NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s President, Congressman John Tanner, the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament, Gundars Daudze, the Prime Minister of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis and NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen. All these meetings are open to the press. PROGRAMME FOR THE MEDIA A detailed programme for the media containing names and timings for the speakers and the discussion of the Committee reports will be available and regularly updated on the NATO PA web site at http://www.nato-pa.int/default.asp?SHORTCUT=2014 All meetings indicated in the press programme are open to the press. SESSION VENUE International Exhibition Centre The committee meetings and the Plenary Session will be held on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May 2010 in the International Exhibition Centre. Access to the session venue is for registered press only. PRESS BRIEFING NATO Parliamentary Assembly President, Congressman, John Tanner, the Head of the Latvian delegation to the NATO PA, Vaira Paegle and David Hobbs, NATO PA Secretary General will welcome the press and give a press briefing on Friday 28 May at 11:00 in Hall C of the Exhibition Centre. The briefing may be postponed to the afternoon.
