21 June 2011 - NATO PARLIAMENTARIANS GATHER IN ARCTIC CIRCLE FOR SEMINAR
Some fifty members of the parliaments of NATO member states are gathering in the Arctic Circle city of Tromsø, Norway, for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s 77th Rose-Roth Seminar, organised in cooperation with the Norwegian Parliament. Representing 19 NATO and partner countries, the delegates will meet June 22-24 to discuss “Changes in the High North: Implications for NATO and Beyond.” |
The Seminar features a keynote presentation by Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, as well as seven panel discussions with world-renowned experts on such topics as economic and strategic trends in the region; the legal and institutional framework governing activities there; and the challenges of responding to unexpected consequences in its uniquely difficult climactic and geographical conditions. Members will also discuss global and regional climate trends and the state of play of intergovernmental discussions on climate change. Crucially, the members will discuss what role organisations such as NATO and the EU might play in the future of this increasingly strategic region. |
