NATO-PA SECRETARY GENERAL ELECTED TO NEW FOUR-YEAR TERM

Mr Simon Lunn, current Secretary General of the NATO-Parliamentary Assembly, has been reappointed for a further four years.

The NATO-PA's Standing Committee unanimously reelected Mr Lunn, 62, whose current term of office expires at the end of 2003, to the position during the Assembly's 49th annual session in Orlando, Florida. The five-day session opened on November 7 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Mr Lunn, who took over as Secretary General in 1997, said he was very pleased by the decision. "I look forward to another four years as exciting and challenging as the previous ones," Mr Lunn said.

Over the last decade, the Assembly NATO's parliamentary arm has seen a large increase in both its activities and membership and now groups together parliamentarians from NATO's 19 member states and 20 Associate members.
