NATO Parliamentarians will visit Afghanistan on 19-22 May for a fact-finding mission on the current NATO role in Afghanistan. Led by Vice-President and Rapporteur of the Defence and Security Committee Pierre Lellouche (France), the delegation will meet with senior military and civilian officials at ISAF in Kabul, the US and EU ambassadors to Afghanistan, and examine ongoing peacekeeping operations in the area. The delegation will gain a first-hand understanding of the situation in Afghanistan and how NATO might expand its mission there in the future. Information gathered during the visit will be incorporated into the General Report of the Defence and Security Committee to be presented to the Assembly at its Spring Session in Bratislava later this month. |
