|
The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), Hon Doug Bereuter (United States) together with Secretary General, Mr. Simon Lunn, will be making a Presidential visit to Ukraine from 25 – 27 May 2004. |
|
The main purpose of the visit is to assess Ukraine’s progress in integrating with Euro-Atlantic institutions, and to underline the close co-operation that exists between the Assembly and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Ukrainian parliamentarians participate in a wide range of Assembly activities, and in addition the Assembly members and members of the Verkhovna Rada meet twice a year in the context of the Assembly’s Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council which provides a parliamentary dimension to Ukraine’s programme of co-operation with NATO. The Mr Bereuter’s visit is a response to the invitation of Mr. Oleh Zarubinskyi, Head of the Ukrainian Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. During the visit, the NATO PA President will meet senior figures in both government and parliament, including President Leonid Kuchma, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and Mr. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. |
