9 December 2005 - NATO PA PRESIDENT PIERRE LELLOUCHE CONDEMNS IRANIAN PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS [PRESS COMMUNIQUE]
Pierre Lellouche, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, strongly and unreservedly condemned the declarations made yesterday by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Iranian President expressed doubts about the extent of the Holocaust and declared that Israelis wanting a Jewish state should establish one in Europe with the help of German and Austria. "Such comments should be seen in the most severe light", Lellouche said, "they simply have no place in a civilised world". |
President Lellouche associated himself with the widespread condemnations expressed by political leaders from both sides of the Atlantic. He also stated that with Mr Ahmadinejad's latest remarks and his call last October for Israel to be "wiped off the map", the Iranian President was placing himself outside the boundaries of international law and was confirming the concerns of the international community about the Iranian regime. Two of the NATO Assembly's Committees in 2006 will address Iran's policies and weapons proliferation programmes. |
