Legislators debate strategic impact of shale revolution
Luxembourg 19 May 2013, The energy revolution that has enabled Canada and the United States to unlock vast reserves of oil and gas could have profound economic and security implications for the NATO Alliance, legislators from allied nations heard Saturday. “This is something that is going to change not only the energy market in the world, but everything else,” said Jeppe Kofod, deputy head of the Danish delegation to NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly. “It has huge political and geo-strategic implications.”

NATO urged to build on ties with Asia-Pacific nations
Luxembourg 18 May 2013, NATO should respond to the growing strategic relevance of the Asia-Pacific by developing its own outreach programme for the region in addition to the new US focus there, Alliance lawmakers were told Saturday. "European allies too have a vested interest in the stability and security of the region and it would be short sighted if they would not step up their engagement," said Ojars Kalnins, head of Latvia's delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
