The newly elected President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Bert Koenders (Netherlands), will address Heads of State and Government at the NATO Summit in Riga on Wednesday 29 November. Mr Koenders will make his address at the end of the morning session.

Mr. Koenders was elected President of the NATO PA on 17 November in Qu‚bec, Canada. He has been a long-standing member of the NATO PA, most recently occupying the position of Vice-President and Deputy Head of the Netherlands delegation to the NATO PA. Mr. Koenders is also spokesperson on foreign affairs for the Netherlands' Labour Party (PvdA) and has served on the Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Committees of the Netherlands' parliament. Previously, he served as a political advisor for Mexico, Mozambique and South Africa at the United  Nations and as a Principal Administrator at the European Commission. 

Mr. Koenders replaces Mr. Pierre Lellouche (France) who occupied the position from November 2004 until November 2006.
