3 March 2008 - NATO PARLIAMENTARIANS TO HOLD FIRST SEMINAR WITH CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTERPARTS

Security in the Caspian region and Central Asia will be discussed by legislators from NATO and partner countries during the 68th Rose-Roth seminar, taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 6-8 March. Organised in cooperation with the parliament of Azerbaijan, the seminar will involve some 50 members of parliament, including for the first time delegations from the Central Asian Republics and participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan (tbc) and Uzbekistan, together with experts from national governments, international organizations, academic institutions, NGOs and think-tanks. |

José Lello, NATO PA President, and Ogtay Asadov, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis (Parliament) will open the debates on 6 March, followed by a keynote presentation by professor Anatol Lieven of Kings College War Studies Department in London. A discussion on the relations between Afghanistan and Central Asia, with reference to the NATO ISAF operations, will include a delegation from the National Assembly of Afghanistan.
