I was shocked and appalled by the dreadful terrorist attacks in London on Thursday 7 July.

The fact that these attacks took place as the G-8 summit is striving to alleviate poverty in the most deprived regions of the world shows that the perpetrators care nothing for humanity and civilized values. They are an affront to all societies and all religions.

I am sure that I speak on behalf of all the members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in extending my deepest sympathy to the British people, particularly those whose lives have been directly affected by these atrocities.

The result of these barbaric acts will be to strengthen the resolve and solidarity of our nations in dealing with the scourge of international terrorism.
