[51ST ANNUAL SESSION, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, 11-15 NOVEMBER 2005]

The Future role and relevance of NATO and a review of the Alliance's current missions will be key issues for discussion at the 51st Annual Session of the NATO PA which will be held in Copenhagen from 11 to 15 November (incl.) 2005.

The session which will attract 300 (approx.) legislators from North America and Europe will be held at two separate locations in Copenhagen.  The NATO PA's five committees will meet in the Folketing (the Danish Parliament).  A plenary session will be held at the Falconer Centre. 

The schedule of the five day session is as follows:

* SATURDAY 12 AND SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER, THE FOLKETING

 Meetings of the NATO PA's five committees - Defence and Security; Civil Dimension of Security; Political; Economics and Security; and Science and Technology. The Committees will consider reports1 and policy texts on topical issues including securing NATO's role and relevance, NATO's out-of-area operations and current missions; its future role in "post-conflict" operations; progress on the Prague Capabilities Commitments; NATO-EU security co-operation; regional issues including the Persian Gulf, the Caucasus, the Balkans, and Central Asia; civil protection; resource scarcity as a source of conflict; climate change in the Arctic; the implications of China's economic emergence; and the security of WMD-related material in Russia. 

 The Committees will also hear presentations from a wide range of international specialists and Danish Government ministers on the above topics.

* TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER, FALCONER CENTRE

Plenary Session. To include addresses by Anders Fogh RASMUSSEN, Prime Minister of Denmark, Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN Prime Minister of Turkey, Jaap DE HOOP SCHEFFER, Secretary General of NATO and Chairman of the North Atlantic Council and Pierre LELLOUCHE  (France) President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
The presentations of Mr Rasmussen, Mr. Erdogan and Mr de Hoop Scheffer will be followed by question and answer sessions with the NATO PA parliamentarians.
