Consulting Senior Fellow for European Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies

Dr Bastian Giegerich is a political scientist specialising in European and transatlantic security and defence issues. He is the Consulting Senior Fellow for European Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS, London) and a Senior Researcher at the Bundeswehr Institute of Social Sciences, a research organisation of the German Armed Forces. A graduate of the University of Potsdam (Germany), he was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Maryland (USA) and obtained his PhD at the London School of Economics (UK). Among his most recent publications are "The Struggle for Value in European Defence" (with Alex Nicoll, in: Survival, 54(1), 2012) and a university textbook on NATO (Springer VS, 2012).
