Andrius AVIZIUS

Director, Science and Technology Committee
At the Assembly since February 2005

Before joining the Assembly, Mr. Avižius worked at the International Relations Department of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania for almost eight years, since 1997. He was mainly dealing with the inter-parliamentary relations with the United States of America, as well as with Lithuania's participation in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

In March-July 2000, Mr. Avižius was a Research Assistant at the NATO PA. In November 2001 and November 2004, he was OSCE election supervisor and observer in Kosovo and the United States.

Mr. Avižius studied at the Institute of the International Relations and Political Science of the Vilnius University and graduated from it at as a B.A. in political science in 1998, and as a Master in European studies in 2001. He also studied international relations for several months at the Universities of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Oslo, Norway. He attended courses and seminars on international politics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and Chicago and Washington, D.C., USA.

Mr. Avižius' mother tongue is Lithuanian, he is fluent in English and Russian, and has a working knowledge of French.

His hobbies and interests include reading, history, cinema, canoeing, and playing football and basketball.
