More than 30 members of parliament, most of them newly elected from NATO partner countries are meeting in Brussels for an intensive programme of introduction to NATO’s policies and operations.

The Group includes legislators from member countries as well as from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Kazakhstan and the Assembly of Kosovo.

The four days programme features meetings with NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, ASG’s Amb. Erdman, J. F. Bureau, deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee general Eikenberry and Briefings at SHAPE including a presentation by the NATO Special Operation Forces Co-ordination Center.

Outside experts from the Geneva Center of Democratic Control of the armed Forces and the Carnegie endowment Europe will also brief the group.

The objective of this programme is to introduce members of parliament to NATO but also to allow them to share their views and engage in a dialogue with the leaders of the Alliance.
