The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), US Congressman John Tanner, condemned North Korea’s nuclear test in the strongest possible terms. “North Korea’s test of a nuclear device on Monday only serves to ratchet up the level of tension in the Asia-Pacific region. It does nothing to promote North Korea’s security and only reinforces the need to ensure that North Korea’s nuclear programme is halted.”

Tanner went on to say that, “I know that the members of the transatlantic Alliance  are united on this issue.” Speaking at the Spring Session of the NATO PA in Oslo Norway, he said, “We all call on North Korea to return to the Six Party negotiations without conditions and work toward a solution that improves the security of the Korean peninsula and the broader region.”
