Dr Karl A. Lamers, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, issued the following statement today: "I congratulate Serbian authorities on the arrest of Goran Hadzic. With this arrest and the expected transfer of Mr Hadzic to The Hague, all war crime suspects indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia will have faced trial for the crimes committed during the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s."

"This marks a major step for Serbia. After the arrest of Ratko Mladic in May, it is another demonstration of Belgrade’s determination to resolve outstanding issues from the past, and offer its citizens the prospect of a prosperous future in the region and in the European and Euro-Atlantic community. The NATO PA will continue to encourage and support Serbia on this path, building on the excellent cooperation we have established with the Serbian National Assembly.

This arrest is also a major success for regional reconciliation and for international justice. I want to pay tribute to the work accomplished by the ICTY since its creation 18 years ago to bring justice to the victims of one of the darkest conflicts in recent European history."
