The Parliament of Romania will host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's 57th Annual Session in Bucharest from Friday 7 October to Monday 10 October 2011. The Session will bring together some 350 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member countries from North America and Europe as well as delegates from partner countries and observers to discuss common international security concerns and adopt the reports prepared by the Assembly’s committees.

General

The Parliament of Romania will host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly's 57th Annual Session in Bucharest fromFriday 7 October to Monday 10 October 2011. The Session will bring together some 350 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member countries from North America andEurope as well as delegates from partner countries and observers to discuss common international security concerns and adopt the reports prepared by the Assembly’s committees.   

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly President, Dr Karl A. Lamers, the Head of the Romanian Delegation to the NATO PA, Sever Voinescu-Cotoi, and the NATO PA Secretary General, David Hobbs, will welcome media representatives and answer questions during a press briefing onFriday 7 October at 11:00.

Saturday 8 andSunday 9 Octoberwill be devoted to themeetings of the NATO PA’s five Committees:Political, Defence and Security, Science and Technology, Civil Dimension of Security and Economics and Security. Each Committee will discuss Reports on a broad range of security and defence topics and will be addressed by prestigious speakers from government, academia, NGO’s and NATO.

The Plenary sessionon Monday 10 Octoberwill be addressed by NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s President, NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, high Romanian officials, Major General Karl Engelbrektson, Swedish Military Representative to the EU and NATO and other prestigious speakers. The Assembly’s policy recommendations will be presented, debated and voted on the afternoon.

A draft programme for the media with the names and timings of the speakers and the Committee agendas is available and regularly updated on the NATO PA web site.

Only the meetings indicated in the press programme are open to the press.
