Members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will meet their counterparts from the Duma and the Federation Council on April 10 and 11 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Led by Pierre Lellouche of France, vice-president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the joint meeting of the Defence and Security, Political, and Science and Technology committees will also include discussions with Russian government and military officials. Among the topics to be addressed: how NATO countries and Russia can improve cooperation on counter-terrorism efforts, and the effects of the war in Iraq on the global security environment. “These meetings are a unique opportunity for elected officials from NATO countries and Russia to meet face-to-face,” said Mr. Lellouche. “We look forward to a frank and open discussion of the pressing issues of the day.” |
