The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is holding its 56th Rose-Roth seminar in Sarajevo, in the parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 18-20 March.

The meeting is taking place at an important stage in the development of the country. The recent appointment of the first ever Minister of Defence of the country, Nikola Radovanovic, who will address the seminar, marks a further step towards the realisation of the goal of membership of NATO's Partnership for Peace.

NATO PA members will hear presentations on the latest domestic and regional developments from other senior officials in BiH's government and parliament, Ambassador Donald Hays, Principal Deputy High Representative, and OSCE head of mission Ambassador Robert Beecroft. NATO's role in the region will be discussed with Ambassador Günther Altenburg, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs.

Participants will also be briefed on the security situation within the country by SFOR Commander Lt Gen Virgil Packett, and by EU Police Mission head Bartolomew Kevin Carty, against the background of the anticipated transfer of command authority from SFOR to the European Union later this year.

The meeting will bring together legislators from 21 member and partner countries, including Assembly Vice President Pierre Lellouche (France).
