The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Pierre Lellouche (France), will pay an official visit to Ukraine from 16-20 October. He will be accompanied on this visit by two Assembly Vice Presidents, Jozef Banás (Slovakia) and Vahit Erdem (Turkey) and the Assembly’s Secretary General, Simon Lunn.

Meetings are planned with key Ukrainian political leaders, including President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, and Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, as well as with their colleagues from the Verkhovna Rada.  The latter includes the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Volodymyr Lytvyn, who will also host a meeting involving the permanent representatives to the North Atlantic Council, Rada members, and the NATO PA members on 19 October.

Mr. Lellouche's is the first NATO PA Presidential visit to Ukraine after the 2004 presidential elections and the so-called "orange revolution".  NATO parliamentarians intend to discuss progress being made with Ukraine's political, defence and economic reforms as well as relations between Kiev and the Alliance.

The NATO PA delegation will also visit the Ukrainian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.
