Miguel GUTIÉRREZ VIVAS has been a member of the Spanish Parliament for Ciudadanos (Cs) since 2015, where he has been serving as whip for the parliamentary group. He has been the deputy spokesperson in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the spokesperson in the parliamentary committees on Defence, Home Affairs and National Security. During his work in these committees, he maintained a strong relationship with civil society groups, as he advocated for better working conditions for national security forces.
Mr Gutiérrez Vivas joined the Spanish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly upon his election to the Spanish parliament in 2016, being appointed as Second Deputy Head of the Delegation. He has been an active member of the delegation, and has played a key role as a member of the Political Committee and the Sub-committee on Transatlantic Relations, where he has been advocating for stronger ties between both sides of the Atlantic.
He has also participated in NATO PA Rose-Roth Seminars, where he had fruitful exchanges with members from Central and Eastern European Member States to discuss common challenges to security. In addition, he has also been an active member of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group, where he worked tirelessly with partners in the MENA region to reinforce our political dialogue and to address the root causes of mass migration.
In 2019 he was elected Vice-President of the Assembly.
He is an engineer by training, and he previously worked in the private sector before starting his political career.
