Silviu Nicu Macovei is a member of Romanian Parliament, Chamber of Deputies, elected as a member of Social Democratic Party (PSD). He is now in his second term in Parliament and he is Vice-leader of the social democratic group in Chamber of Deputies. Silviu Macovei is considered to be the new wave of young Romanian social democrats with strong reformative orientation towards social equity and a modern social State. His main interests reside in education reform, especially the reduction of unbalanced access to qualitative schooling between rural and urban environments. His main concern is towards social, economic and educational disparities in Romania’s countryside compared to highly developed cities. Also, Silviu Macovei has a strong interest in connecting the Romanian diaspora to the origin country considering the specificities of economic migration of Romanian workers. With a profound European and Western ideological orientation, Silviu Macovei is a young politician with public attitudes regarding the need for a faster modernization and a better integration of Romania in Occidental values system, economical cooperation and diplomatic cohesion.
