Karen McCrimmon has been a Member of the Canadian Parliament since 2015. She has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of Veterans Affairs, Transportation, and Public Safety. She is currently the Chair of the National Defence Committee.
Karen became President of the Canadian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in 2020.
Karen is a veteran of the Canadian Air Force, having served 31 years in Canada’s military. In 1981, she became an air navigator – the first woman to earn the qualification. In 1998, Karen was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer of 429 Transport Squadron in Trenton, becoming the first woman to command a Canadian Forces flying squadron.
During her military career, Karen served for 4 years in NATO Headquarters in Ramstein, Germany. She is also a veteran of Afghanistan.
Karen was elected as Vice-President of the NATO Parliamentary Association in November 2020.
