The world faces an unprecedented pandemic. Throughout 2020, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has continued to meet online to assess the devasting impact of this crisis on our societies and to call for solidarity and cooperation. For the first time ever, we will now hold our Annual Session online.
Over six days, we will review our responses to COVID-19 and the important role our armed forces have played in this crisis.
We will also discuss the many security challenges which continue to affect our security:
- Russia’s aggressive actions;
- China’s rise;
- terrorism;
- instability in our neighbourhood; and
- emerging and disruptive technologies.
We must address these and other challenges together, working with our many partners.
We will also play our part in the NATO2030 initiative and help shape a vision for NATO’s future.
Throughout this pandemic parliaments have continued to play their essential roles safeguarding democratic values and freedoms at home.
With this session, we demonstrate that, no matter the setting, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly provides an essential forum for open and frank political dialogue on transatlantic security.
Together we remain committed to protecting our citizens and defending the values for which the NATO Alliance stands.
I look forward to seeing you online.
