Brussels / Washington, 5 July 2016 - NATO PA President Hon. Michael R. Turner (United States) will address NATO’s leaders at their Summit in Warsaw on Friday. Since 1997, successive Assembly Presidents have been invited to present the Assembly’s key concerns and recommendations to Summits of NATO’s Heads of State and Government.
Mr Turner is expected to focus his address on the need to strengthen NATO’s collective defence and deterrence in view of Russia’s aggressive and revisionist policies and actions.
He will also call on Allied governments to increase defence spending and work with partners to project stability in NATO’s neighbourhood.
Ahead of the Summit, Mr Turner authored a pamphlet entitled “Deterring to Defend: Delivering on NATO’s Promise”, which details specific measures to bolster NATO’s conventional and nuclear deterrence.
The text of Mr Turner’s address to Summit leaders will be distributed immediately following his presentation in Warsaw on Friday afternoon.
