Brussels, 25 May 2017 - NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Paolo Alli will be representing the Assembly at the Special Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Brussels today. He will participate with Allied leaders in the handover ceremony of the Alliance’s new Headquarters.
As the Atlantic Alliance faces complex security threats and pressure from the South and the East, it is more important than ever to reaffirm the principles of unity and solidarity that have guaranteed global stability for more than 65 years. This is why I intend to reiterate the NATO PA’s commitment to support and strengthen those values" said Mr Alli.
In his invitation letter NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted the essential contribution that the NATO PA is providing to support the goals of the Alliance.
During their meeting in Brussels, Allied leaders are due to focus on ways to improve burden sharing among Allies and on strengthening NATO’s role in fighting terrorism.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is due to review the key outcomes from the Brussels meeting at its Spring Session, which will kick off in Tbilisi, Georgia on 26 May.
