Washington/Brussels, 16 July 2016 - “NATO nations are bound together by their common commitment to democracy and the rule of law. This includes government through democratically elected institutions and the subordination of the armed forces to these institutions", Assembly President, Hon. Michael R Turner (United States) stated today.

I deplore the loss of civilian lives and call for an immediate end to violence, and full respect for Turkey’s Constitution and democratic institutions. Parliament has an important role to play in restoring constitutional order and citizens’ trust in the state’s institutions, and I know that my colleagues in the Turkish parliament are working actively towards those aims.
