NATO PA President Attila Mesterhazy (Hungary) wrote to United States President-elect Joe Biden yesterday to congratulate him on his election and that of Vice-President elect Kamala Harris and to stress the Assembly’s commitment to a strong transatlantic bond.
“Europe and North America remain each other’s closest and best allies in addressing [today’s] complex challenges”, wrote President Mesterhazy. “The unique bond tying our nations together, through NATO, is the bedrock of our security. You can count on the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and its 269 members of parliament from across the Alliance to do all we can to further strengthen this bond.” President Mesterhazy saluted in particular the bipartisan US congressional delegation to the NATO PA for its commitment and active engagement in support of NATO and transatlantic security.
Recalling that President-elect Biden is a former member of the NATO PA, Mr Mesterhazy added: “[i]t is a particular pleasure and pride for me and my colleagues on the NATO Parliamentary Assembly that the next President of the United States is an alumnus of the organisation.”
