Statement by the NATO PA President on yesterday’s terrorist attack in Nice

30 October 2020

“Just like the recent attacks outside Charlie Hebdo’s old office last month or the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty two weeks ago, yesterday’s barbarous terrorist attack in Nice on innocent people in and around a church represents a despicable assault on life, freedom, and our shared civilizational values.

My deepest sympathies go out to the relatives and friends of the victims and the French people.

On behalf of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, I want to convey our profound sense of solidarity with France. Terrorism is a scourge which, sadly, continues to haunt our world. As an Alliance, we must remain committed to protecting our citizens and defending the values for which our nations stand.

Our unity, openness, and unwavering commitment to freedom and democracy will continue to remain our greatest source of strength in the face of terrorism.”
