Piotr Wawrzyk was born in 1967. He is an assistant professor at the Institute of European Studies of the University of Warsaw. He graduated in international relations and law from the University of Warsaw. In 1998-1999 he took part in Poland-EU accession negotiations, after which he became an expert of the Sejm EU Affairs Committee in 2005-2009. His other positions include a member of the editorial board of Przegląd Europejski, a reviewer of the Taxation and Customs Law Monitor and an expert with the Euranet programme.

He specializes in international cooperation and the EU with a particular focus on internal security, European and international civil and family law, and European legal systems.
