Biography

Sara Myrdal is Director of International Affairs at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) where she heads the Department for International Coordination. Her responsibilities span a wide range of EU and international cooperation arrangements focused on national security and crisis preparedness including Nato PfP, Nordic and Baltic Sea cooperation. Sara is the Agreement Director for the bilateral agreement between the US (Department of Homeland Security) and Sweden on cooperation in science and technology for homeland security matters. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Swedish Coast Guard. 

Sara has previously worked as Senior Analyst at the Swedish National Defence College (SNDC). In her position at the SNDC she collaborated within the research program “Building Societal Security in Europe” where she focused on the challenges of multi-sectoral and multi-level governance in a European perspective. She has been affiliated with the Swedish National Center for Crisis Research Management and Training Center (CRiSMART) at the SNDC. Sara has also been a Research associate with the Nordic Security Policy Research Programme and she has worked at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), heading a research project on crisis management in the European Union.
