Function : Policy Officer, Operations (Afghanistan and Iraq), NATO
Ulrich joined the International Staff’s Operations Division as a policy officer working on Afghanistan and Iraq in August 2018. He began his career with NATO in 2011 as an intelligence analyst working on Afghanistan and later the Middle East at the alliance’s strategic military headquarters (SHAPE). From 2015 to 2017, Ulrich was employed as a research analyst at NATO’s Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre. Ulrich also spent almost two and half years in Afghanistan, first as head of risk analysis for the German government’s development agency (2014/ 2015) and then as a Political Adviser for the NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan (2017/ 2018). Ulrich holds a PhD in international relations from the University of Essex and publishes regularly on international affairs.
