The NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s 2022 Spring Session will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Session was due to be held in Kyiv. However, in close coordination with the Ukrainian hosts, the Lithuanian Seimas generously offered to organise the Spring Session in Vilnius after Russia launched its unprovoked and unjustified war of choice against Ukraine.

This Session will demonstrate the Assembly’s unwavering, steadfast support for Ukraine and the Alliance’s resolve to deter against any threat to NATO members and to defend every inch of NATO territory.

From 27 - 30 May 2022, all 269 members of parliament from the 30 NATO members and about 100 members from some 30 partner countries and parliamentary bodies will have the opportunity to gather and discuss:

  • Russia’s renewed, full-scale invasion, Allied support to Ukraine and implications for NATO
  • NATO’s broader adaptation and the revision of NATO’s Strategic Concept – which Allied Heads of State and Government are due to adopt at their Summit meeting in Madrid in June

NATO PA President, Gerald E. Connolly, will address the Session’s Plenary Sitting on Monday 30 May, alongside senior representatives from the Lithuanian and Ukrainian governments and parliaments and NATO.
Other key topics to be discussed in Vilnius include:

  • the lessons learned from NATO’s engagement in Afghanistan
  • NATO partnerships and the future of the Open Door policy
  • challenges to stability in the Western Balkans and the Middle East and North Africa
  • the growing strategic importance of Asia and the Indo-Pacific
  • the continued threat of terrorism
  • the important role and contribution of women to peace and security
  • Allied resilience efforts
  • cyber security and defence
  • the security impact of climate change
  • strategic trade and corruption challenges
  • the future of warfare

During the Spring Session, the Assembly’s five Committees will discuss the committees’ preliminary draft reports.
