NATO PA President’s statement on the situation in Israel and the Palestinian Territories

17 May 2021

President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Gerald E. Connolly (United States), issued the following statement regarding the situation in Israel and Gaza.

“The escalating violence between Israelis and Palestinians is alarming and has already claimed the lives of scores of innocent civilians. Further bloodshed and tragedy must be avoided. An immediate ceasefire is our most urgent priority.

Many Allied governments and legislators are working diligently to support efforts to deescalate the situation. We must end the violence now to address emergency humanitarian needs and avert a deepened conflict with further loss of life.”

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a unique forum for members of parliament from across the Atlantic Alliance. The Assembly is institutionally separate from NATO but serves as an essential link between NATO and the parliaments as well as citizens of the NATO nations.

At the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Israel holds a status as Regional Partner and Mediterranean Associate Member Delegation and the Palestinian National Council as a Parliamentary Observer.
