Biographie

Director of the Program on Violent Radicalization and Global Terrorism at Elcano Royal Institute, Spain’s leading think tank on international and strategic studies, as well as professor of Political Science at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, in Madrid. He is also a Global Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center and Adjunct Professor in Security Studies at Georgetown University, both in Washington, where in addition features as a Fellow of George Washington University’s Program on Extremism.
 
His book Al Qaeda’s Revenge. The 2004 Madrid Train Bombings (New York: Columbia University Press, 2017) –Spanish version: 11-M. La venganza de Al Qaeda (Barcelona: Galaxia Gutenberg, 2021) was praised by The Economist as “an impressive piece of research”, considered by Foreign Affairs as “a must-read for counterterrorism authorities and concerned citizens alike”, reviewed by Terrorism and Political Violence as “the definitive work on the 11 March bombings”, defined by Sécurité global as “a terrorism studies classic”, and assessed by Brookings Institution as “one of the most important books written on the subject of radical Islamic terrorism in Europe and North America since 9/11.”
